FORUM SENAYAN
Forum Senayan was conceived as a mixed-use development located in the heart of the affluent “Golden Triangle” in Jakarta, Indonesia. With a range of functions as varied as the users, the harmonious integration of spaces within the vibrant shopping podium, office tower, hotel and a luxurious apartment block takes centre stage. For the architect, the challenge lies in creating a wholesome environment, from which people from all walks of life can work, live, play and interact with one another. With that in mind, Forum Senayan was born out of a predominantly functional concept, creatively married with aesthetic coherence.
The approach to this vastly dynamic form begins with a curvilinear entry with a sense of contemporary grandeur. The norms for human behavioral patterns of movement have been closely studied and applied to the design so as to achieve a seamless flow of human circulation within the shopping realm. Unobstructed exposure of the shops within the interior has been cleverly achieved through the sweeping curves around the two atriums. A collage of transparency and opacity applied to similarly bold curves can be observed on the external architecture.
Design of the surrounding environment has swayed towards the practicality of vehicular access, but a guided tour around the site reveals some savvy environmental credentials. A sunken plaza, the first of its kind in Jakarta, greets the pedestrian with the whimsical sound of falling water and the permeating fragrance of freshly prepared food. Yet amidst this hustle and bustle of human activities, a sanctuary for tranquil contemplation or the occasional romantic interludes can still be found around the west lake.
Though designed as a mechanism for human use, key to its experience still depends on its arsenal of human activity. These intrepid strokes of artistic ingenuity aims to promote this exciting shopping hub as a world-class development. |
