FAR EAST SQUARE

Far East Square is located within a historic area, which formed part of the early Chinese Settlement that contains many historically significant buildings.

As part of Urban Redevelopment Authority’s China Square concept plan, the area is transformed into a unique transitional zone between the CBD and Chinatown, incorporating both new and old developments. This is a vibrant modern commercial centre with a combination of new infill and restored existing structures relating to different periods of architecture. Due to its historic significance, the Fuk Tak Chi temple was restored to maintain as much of its historic fabric as possible. The cultural pavilion is a venue for the arts and culture within the CBD area and attracts crowds after office hours. To tie the different blocks of the development together, an all encompassing traditional concept of the Five Elements central to Chinese philosophy - metal, wood, water, fire and earth was employed in the design.

Far East Square was honoured with the URA Architectural Heritage Award in 1999, the SIA-ICI DULUX Colour Award 2000, and the Certificate of Merit in Innovative Design & Construction 2000 by the International Council of Shopping Centres and the FIABCI Prix d’Excellence 2001.
