SCOTTSWALK

The building has been designed essentially to meet the retail-operational requirements of DFS. The circulation concept is to provide a private driveway leading to the back of the building, where a separate entrance is located for customers coming by tour buses. Within the retail space, the customers will be directed to the top floor first by way of the main escalator that spans 5 storeys (without any intermediate supports!).

The building is expressed in more contemporary terms; with the latest technology available to achieve a 'Transformable Facade' of urban large-scale colour-kinetic lighting with video projection-display and graphics.

After numerous brainstorming and design sessions with both the Client and the operator, the final building facade is designed to incorporate an abstract interpretation of Colonial architecture. The main entrance from Scotts Road is defined by a canopy/circular feature above, and is centrally located, in addition to the 'Red’ colour treatment for the front entrance colonnade.

The main entrance is flanked on both sides by a translucent curtain wall-glazing system that appears 'white' in the day and is lit at night by a LED-lighting system.

The lighting system may be programmed to create interesting lighting-colour pattern and configuration; against a backdrop of 'Red' building envelope constructed of aluminium cladding system, to achieve a visually outstanding building.
